THE WAY I SEE YOU

It was one of the clueless mornings that the hands of time just stop, and there is nothing but light, when I saw you entering the room, and the bunch of people surrounding you just instantly blurred out in the panoramic scene.

Days, Weeks, Months have passed but still, nothing on you has change. You were still the best version of a prince charming that I have been reading since I was seven, which I never knew that would possibly come to life.

But the way I see you was never the same way on how I visualize the prince charmings of Bella, Aurora, Snow White and Cinderella. It was in my early adult age that I have come to realize that Prince Charming really don't come in shining armors and white horses. It is most of the time that I prefer visualizing such things in a simple context on how I see you. Wherein a prince charming may possibly come in a completely different manner, maybe someone who just comes in plain shirt and brushed up neat hair and denim jeans. He might also be wearing scrubs on a typical working day, driving on  a busy street. He might be the person cheering you up since day one or the person who sees things in you in a completely perfect perspective even though it is not. He might also be the person who has always been willing to give a helping hand. And I just like to view it that way, that once, I was Sally and the Harry that I've been waiting to meet was the person sitting in front of me. I just love to view it in a way that the prince charming in my own Cinderella story was you.

You were the sun in a field of tulips, and certain days has never been blue because of you. You always manage to make things lighter and at ease whenever it is not. You were the harmony that calms the sea and the air that blows the summer breeze. The way you say "You're welcome always",  "It's okay" and "I'm just here" has always been a relief. There's a lot of simple things about you that had caught me off guard such as the way you look and how you say what you mean and how you mean it, and it is far better than royalties in white horses and knights in shining armors that I have been reading since then.

You make everything seems to fall into place. You have always been the "Yes" in every "No", the confirmation in every doubt, and the pleasant surprise in every downfall. You may not see me the way I see you but you will always be my favorite definition of a prince charming and there is nothing else in between.

Midway Grill

If you guys happen to hang out somewhere in San Fernando, La Union, you might also be interested to drop over an American Diner Place somewhere along the area of Mc Arthur Hi Way in La Union in front of St. Louis College.

When you asked travel advisers or tour guides where in La Union can you find the best restaurant that offers quality American dishes, Midway Grill is the place to be!

When I say "baby back ribs", they actually had the best version of baby back ribs that I've tasted so far because their baby back ribs servings are worth every centavo, their dish is very tender and just had the right mixture for it to be interestingly delicious. Moreover, their plating designs are attractive.

Anyway, Midway Grill would be the first restaurant that comes into my mind when people say "baby back ribs".

As what I'm saying, I have in here my order which includes their best seller, baby back ribs plated with vegetables and accompanied by a blue lemonade.

Another thing that caught my attention was the design of their interior. The walls of the restaurant had a set of different frames of interesting movies. The theme of the restaurant is very American inspired not only in terms of their menu but also in general.

A+ for Midway Grill's baby back ribs plus the staffs were very accommodating and courteous!

Gerry's Jeepney

If you guys are familiar with Maginhawa St., which I bet you are!

The first restaurant that you'll be able to see is the Gerry's Jeepney. It was past 2 pm, that me and my classmates from graduate school decided to explore and have our lunch at Maginhawa St. Since the hot weather during that day was no joke and we wanted to eat in a restaurant, catering Filipino dishes for the benefit of our Indonesian friend, we decided to give Gerry's Jeepney a try. Their jeepneys outside the restaurant was eye catching and you can even dine inside the jeepney if you want to.

The architectural design of this hangout place is very Filipino inspired and if you have a foreigner friend whom you wanted to try Filipino dishes and at the same time let them experience dining inside a jeepney, well, Gerry's Jeepney is definitely the answer.

The theme of the restaurant is very unique and Filipino-inspired.

However, we weren't able to dine inside the jeepney because the restaurant was fully packed that time. So we eat inside their air-conditioned room instead. Inside the room was still a fully furnished and well equipped with jeepney inspired theme.

We have in here, their signature fried rice, sinigang na hipon, sisig and leche flan. I even asked my indonesian friend how was the taste of each dish at the same time how was the experience and for us, their menu is great and very affordable for a group package.

Moreover, their sinigang na hipon was my favorite. And for me, they actually had the best version of this particular dish so far.

An Open Letter to A 28-years old Me

Dear Self,

By the time that you are supposed to read this, I assume that you might be very busy. You might be going through a tough time or you might be coming from a straight duty from the hospital or you just got home from a tiring day completing stocks for your own business or you're resting from an intensive review for an upcoming exam for another degree, you might also be in a serious thought of preparing for a lecture or a presentation, you might just have closed a deal somewhere or more often than not, you just got home from a family gathering, a solo traveling experience or a hangout with friends. Whatever it is, that is keeping you busy, I wanted to give you a tap at the back and tell you that your 23 years old self is proud of you and the things that you have gone through.

Your journey was never easy but you are blessed with wonderful parents who were supporting you all the way. It is by now, that I knew that you have learned lot of life lessons the hard way, you might have lose and gain some things as well as people in your life but at the end of the day, the important thing is that you have learned and you're half way there into becoming a better version of yourself. It was also five years ago that life proved to you that Dad was right when he told you that the only person that you can trust is yourself. You're patience and trust has been tested for so many times but still, I wanted you not to lose faith in people.

It was also five years ago that you were having a quarter life crisis, you kept on questioning if you are taking the right path and making the right decisions. You keep on struggling to make things work according to your plans but still everything doesn't seem to be that fine. And by now, I believe that you already have known the answers because you were given that time to ponder and work harder for what you think you deserve. You might not have found yet what truly makes you a better version of yourself but I wanted you to keep going, keep going until you are in the pedestal of having what you wanted in life. It will only take you a little more patience, a little more struggle and a little more moving forward to have the right time to have things fall into its proper places and have your goals within your reach but still, you must always remember to keep your feet on the ground.

Moreover, the right person, might not also be in sight yet. But I know, you have always been the person who can make anything without depending on other people. It was most of the time that you are happy because you are genuinely happy with your family, friends and what you keep on doing. It will take you a long time to have someone to hold to at life's different seasons and it may possibly take a little longer but I promise and I knew for a fact, that someone will come, someone will be there to change the game. Again, it will only take you a little more patience and a little more moving forward.

Looking at you through a mirror after five years would surely make me shed a tear because I knew that everything would really be different in a positive way. You've become the person that I always wanted to be despite the flaws and imperfections, I can see through you that you were the person that have become a lot more stronger, wiser and better than what I am today.

Just always remember, continue to move forward and chase the landscape that you wanted your life to be and one day, you'll be surprised having the right time, right person and right circumstances falling into its proper places accordingly.

Why the "Phenomenal Dubsmash Icon" Rocks?

A lot of people may not know what "Dubsmash" means but when they hear the word, only one person automatically comes into their mind. It's no other than Maine Mendoza a.k.a. "Yaya Dub"

If it's all about breaking through, well, Maine Mendoza really made it by being an internet/social media sensation. Who would have thought of finding a precious gem out of dubsmash. Eat Bulaga must have really been blessed to find Maine. It's quite obvious and undeniable that Maine is definitely one of the fastest rising star in Philippine Television. Her career rises as fast as a whirlwind having a line up of different commercials and endorsements.

"Yaya Dub" instantly gained followers on her social media account and her segment has always been something to look forward to everyday. Even for a fact that she doesn't talk throughout the segment but just do dubbing and writing on a fan sign.

And honestly, Maine is a rolled into one complete package. She definitely has the looks,in fact, she has a very expressive eyes and captivating and contagious smile. She also has the right attitude and mindset, she has the talent (she can act, she can sing, she can dance and she can make people laugh through her witty antics and down to earth attitude) and if you' ll be able to browse her social media accounts and go through her blog, she is undeniably smart. Maine also has this "beauty queen" features and I wouldn't be surprised in the near future if she would take that particular path.

Maine is one of the persons who obviously brought life to Philippine television. Her expressions are genuine and organic. This girl right here is very transparent and a "what you see is what you get" type of  person. She has captured not only the attention of viewers but also the hearts of the mass people.

If she became popular and well-known by her tag name "Yaya Dub", well then, she is definitely the prettiest yaya in town. This Kapuso star is a one in a million diamond packed with a lot more to offer. From what corner of the universe could we find a person being admired by many just by dubbing and doing her face warping expressions. How much more if we can regularly hear her angelic voice and see her smile more often.

I recently heard her version of "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran and seriously, she nailed it and I can't even wait for the time to come that she'll have her own album. From dubsmash, to noontime shows to commercials, to concert, to MMFF movie all the way to her own album and more to come. Why not? Right?

Writers

Writers, I don't know if I'm one of them but I'm one of the few silent water that runs deep. I don't express thoughts the way that it should be vocally expressed but I do expressed it through this form of media. There's no other way of learning why writers write and how they manage to finish the day than living the life.

It is way more acceptable to confront one's self in a way that you usually don't have to, rather than talking to your own self.  The thing about them, about "us", is that we see things in a different perspective. Different, that we often become misunderstood. We don't chase people but we kept on chasing rainbows. We dwell on the past but we keep on moving forward. We look for things that isn't there but we create worlds from scratch. It is through the blank pages that I create and draw the line between what is ideal and what is real. Writers write their thoughts down and risk losing it.

I'm not always the "on-the go" and/or "always ready" type person, I was like Beethoven quoting, “If I don’t write it down immediately, I forget it right away. If I put it into a sketchbook, I never forget it and I never have to look it up again."

I may forgot dates and schedules, the words and the lines that you previously have told me few minutes ago or may it be way back 5 years but I remember the rest of everything in between as if I jotted it down in a journal or sketch pad. I remember details in spaces between seconds as much as how I remember every single thought that I tend to write down as I stare through those blank spaces.

I may forgot the names inside your story but I remember the feelings that you have invested in each circumstances, the way your eyes look like while saying things that you ought to share. Like what Dunbar have said "Writers-----they remember every story you have told them- like ever!

I remember why you've done this and that, I remember your questions in details, the things that you hope for and the things that you regret. I remember the instant reactions that I'm not sure if chemistry and other areas of physics has something to do with it. I remember the way your eyes talk and how you glance managed to change the atmosphere. I remember how you laugh, how you smile and how you organized your thoughts and even the minor actions and the usual exchange of thoughts in an early to late afternoon conversation. I remember everything as if I jotted it down somewhere safer than those blank pages that I tend to carry somewhere. I remember how it feels to be at the edge of falling as if I was chasing rainbows and spinning wheels where everything tends to be black and white and we were something that shouts in a specific loud color but in reality it wasn't,  I was chasing dragons, falling somewhere in a cliff at the same time having something to be crumpled within my fist.

THE WIT

The Wit film is a 2001 American Television Movie directed by Mike Nichols. It was based on the 1999 Pulitzer Prize winning play of the same title by Margaret Edson.

Upon watching the film entitled “The Wit” by Margaret Edson, I have come to realize that this appears to be a matter of life and death. The suffering of Vivian Bearing is shown in the film as well as her relationship with her two doctors, her loss of dignity and her death.

The Healthcare as it was presented in the story has set multiple missions such as administration of medical treatment to patients, specialized research conductions, training of interns and residents.
The film has shown insensitivity of the professional healthcare workers toward the patient which is evident with the hospital’s insensitive mechanistic approach to patients having been asked repeatedly of “How are you feeling today?” It is also evident in the scenario where Dr. Jason was about to do a physical examination and he suddenly remembers that a woman must be present that he left Vivian in an uncomfortable position on the stirrups and he even describes the necessity of having another woman inside the room as a crazy clinical rule.

Moreover, his insensitivity continues while doing the examination and has felt and large mass and shouts “Jesus” which is certainly something that a patient doesn’t want to hear. In this case, the principle of nonmaleficence has already been neglected and his care towards Vivian was never Patient-Centered but more of Research-centered.

And for me, the scene where there is a grand round is also unethical because here, Vivian is being touched, poked and discussed in the third person as if she is not present.

Moreover, Dr. Kelekian who is the consultant of Vivian Bearing and at the same time lead researcher should have clearly and specifically discussed and considered ethical considerations such as Freedom from exploitation; He should have reassured Vivian that the information or data that will be gathered from her will not be used against her or in unjust manner.

The research should cause no harm to Vivian which it really did not happen in the film because Dr.Kelekian and Dr. Posner are totally focused on their research blinding them from their therapeutic obligations towards Vivian such as hospice care and they did not even consider lowering the drug dose of Vivian even though she has severe fever and is particularly unwell.

Both doctors even push Vivian to her limits giving her 8 full doses of Hex-ametophospacil and Vinplatin which are both strong chemotherapeutic drugs. Risks to the research participant was not also considered knowing that full dosage of the strongest chemotherapeutic that he offers has not been tested and used to anybody before.

Moreover, research consideration of benefits to the research participant is not guaranteed and this had even more put Vivian at risk. The experimental combination of chemotherapy did not even benefit Vivian and this was not also discussed by Dr. Kelekian and Dr. Jason. It is important to ask the question; ‘Who benefits most from the continuation of the treatment regime, Vivian or the research?’ Risk-Benefit Assessment was not even done by Dr. Kelekian and Dr. Jason.

The risk was more than the benefit that Vivian could possibly receive and such risk benefit ratio was not presented at the initial discussion of the consultant/researcher to the client which is Vivian. Right to Self-determination was not even disclosed, this right was not discussed and the option of withdrawing and refusing from the said experimental combined chemotherapy treatment was not given to Vivian.

Vivian at that time was a highly vulnerable patient because she has been diagnosed with Advanced Stage 4 Metastatic Ovarian Cancer, as she herself notes that there is no Stage 5. In this case Vivian may cling to any treatment which may offer a therapeutic benefit.  At the same time, Right of the patient to full disclosure was not observed.

Dr. Kelekian implied that there is no other treatment option through his lines “this is the strongest thing that we have to offer you”; in such instance the principle of autonomy was also neglected. Such circumstances did not even promote fully autonomous informed consent without coercion and the boundaries were sufficiently blurred to tempt patients to apparently helping themselves with the endeavor to help others.

The therapeutic intent proposed by the experimental treatment in this scenario, is often called ‘therapeutic misconception’. It describes the tendency of patients involved in high risk therapy trials to believe that such treatment was designed for their personal health care, whereas such trials may, in fact, offer them little or no direct benefit.

The Doctor’s did not even become truthful about the treatment’s lack of success. These doctors may have learned a lot for their research but they fail to explain to Vivian that there isn’t a good treatment for Vivian’s condition. This indicates that her consent was not informed and that they made her believe that the treatment was more curative than it truly was.

Right to Privacy was not also observed by Dr. Jason, he just do his diagnostic /physical examinations, his grand rounds explanation, his interventions without even reassuring the privacy of Vivian and without even explaining the course of action that he will do and at the same time without even asking Vivian about her decision and insights regarding those interventions and examinations. In such case, Freedom from harm, respect for autonomy and justice might as well beneficence was neglected.

Conflicts of Interest are very much obvious in the film wherein they are in pursuit of patient-centred beneficence, seeking to maximize patient care and welfare. On the other, they wish to push back the boundaries of scientific knowledge. There is a divergence between patient care and the drive for research and scientific knowledge. The first and most prominent is that of ‘professional integrity’

The relationship between the investigator and the patient must be ethically sound and decisions must be made with the greatest moral scrutiny to ensure patient nonmaleficence, however this in such manner was also neglected. Moreover, distinct lack of empathy was also illustrated by Dr. Jason as he shows inability to see the fear and suffering faced by Vivian. In addition, Respect for Autonomy and Justice was given by Susie as she raises the question about the code status which involves two options which Full Code (resuscitation) or DNR (Do Not Resuscitate). However, Dr. Jason still continued to resuscitate Vivian at the end of the film because he considers Vivian as research.  The film shows that special moral problems can arise when physicians recruit their own patients as research subjects due to the fact that a possibility of coercion and exploitation seem especially great when using their own patients.

The film also  shows that a hospital’s provision of patient care can possibly be compromised by its commitment to teaching and research, however, balance between these two should be observed and there should be no conflicts of interest. Moreover, when it comes to human subjects or patients, health care professionals should always be guided by the four major bioethical principles and at the same time governed by the Hippocratic oath which focuses on doing no harm.

At some point, I was also able to realize that as a healthcare professional we must not only guide and provide a quality and life full of dignity for our patients, we must only prepare them to a quality and dignified death having no pain or distress as well as harm done or being done to him/her.

Moreover, Nurse Susie has become one of the ideal examples of being a nurse; she has shown support to Vivian Bearing up to the patient’s last breath. Still, the essence of being a nurse was portrayed in the film where these unbranded professionals nowadays were shown of greater importance during those hard times of Vivian Bearing.

In terms of the psychosocial aspect of Vivian Bearing, it must have been very hard on her part and if I were her, I would really feel neglected and at the same time disrespected and those things that were done to her were beyond being professional and will really make you feel less of a person.

Life has been a constant cycle, you will never know when and where are you going to need help and empathy from all sorts of people. One of the few lessons that I’ve learned from the movie was that, whether who and what position you are holding, one must learn to be compassionate and people oriented and someone who is sensitive to feelings and status of other people, in that way, it would be a great give and take relationship in our society.

In every human relationship, there are certain duties and rights that must be observed in order to maintain a harmonious, just and orderly relationship.

The Modern Day Hip Hop Artist

When we talk about pinoy music, the first thing that comes into my mind is pinoy love songs, ballad songs and the like. However, let us not forget the genre of Francis M., Gloc-9 and the genre where  Andrew E. started.

I was introduced to a music video entitled "Adobo" by Kenjohn Serrano or Kenjhons for short, a few days before I wrote this entry and it took me quite some time to listen to his craft.

When I first heard his voice, I initially thought that I was like listening to a Filipino version of Eminem or Ron Henley. His voice as well as skill is different from the usual pinoy hip hop artists that I have heard. Kenjhons has a unique style and could possibly pave its way in the international arena. Given the right opportunity, he could effortlessly perform as good or better than Jay-Z, Tupac and other international hip hop artists.

Well, we got it all here in the Philippines!

Kenjhons is a solo R&B/hip hop artist, who just released his first solo album entitled "Matinik" under Viva Records.

"God Gave Me You" : k 24/7 Way

Before reading this entry, I wanted you guys to pause/stop the music playlist being automatically played here at the upper left area of my blog.

We have here a new cover from Johann Mendoza together with his former band mates, Ryan Daguiso and Pierre Paolo Banaga, from K 24/7, which was originally sung by Bryan White and suddenly become viral because of the "Aldub" tandem entitled "God Gave Me You".

Whenever I hear the song, the phenomenal love team comes into my mind first, however, this group of talented guys here made the song more unique and more romantic to listen to, as they bring a different twist with the notes and harmony.

Moreover, the video was also crafted and edited genuinely with so much love because the video includes faces of special people who served as a blessing to others.

Bryan White will surely look for these guys once he hears the cover of his song, because they honestly gave justice and made it more fascinating and mushy to listen to, because of the one of a kind blending and harmony.

When you try to listen with their version of "God Gave Me You" with eyes close in a peaceful environment, you'll definitely feel serenity and a life filled with positive outlook.
